A SPECIAL visitor dropped In on villagers in Chryston and Muirhead on July 26,1911.
Gustav Hamel was taking part in around Britain air race and was forced to land his Bleriot monoplane In Muirhead, when poor visibility set in on the Stirling to Paisley stage.
As Gustav landed his plane in a field at Berryknowe Farm, it hit the top of a haystack and suffered minor damage.
During his enforced stay in Muirhead while repairs were carried out, he was a guest of Dr Lament.
Unfortunately Gustav was later forced to pull out of the race, when his plane was badly damaged when landing near
Dumfries.
He is pictured here being given a rousing send off by spectators in Muirhead.
