Colourful New Year boost for Lennoxtown sports club

GOLFERS can enjoy ‘tee-rrific’ facilities in 2013 thanks to a team of dedicated volunteers who swung into action after scooping gallons of free paint.

It is a new year and a new look for Campsie Golf Club, after members rolled up their sleeves to transform the bar, lounge, toilets and changing rooms over a period of just two weeks.

Paint was supplied by the Dulux Decorator Centre, on Milton Road, Kirkintilloch.

Campsie Golf Club, based on Crow Road, was established in 1897 and has a healthy number of loyal members. However, the club is keen to keep improving its facilities and attract members of the future.

The makeover was completed as part of Dulux Decorator Centres’ Colouring the Community scheme, after clubhouse convener Brian Glen contacted the local store.

The scheme aims to help community groups and charities restore their premises and surrounding areas.

Mr Glen said: “We are so grateful to Dulux Decorator Centres for the generous paint donation, which has made such a difference to the club. We also have a fantastic group of members here who consistently give up their time to assist with club improvements and they’ve been a great help once more.

“We’re always keen to welcome new members to our club as we’re lucky to be located in such a scenic space – we just want golfers to make the most of it, especially after the revamp.”

Stuart Turner, manager of the Dulux Decorator Centre in Kirkintilloch, said: “It’s a pleasure to be involved with projects like this in our local community. The golf club has been so valuable to the area for such a long time and I hope the transformation tempts more keen golfers to take to the course.”
