Feast of art and music at popular festival

IT really was a case of ‘Scots wa-hey’ as Milton of Campsie Village Hall Trust, with essential support from G66+live, once again presented a great St Andrew’s Festival of music, art and dance for the community.

As always, a fine exhibition of paintings was organised by Milton of Campsie Art Club.

An excellent 15 per cent of the 73 pictures on the walls were sold and 25 per cent from the bargain tables.

The club is to be congratulated for putting on such a good show and providing refreshments at all times.

At the free exhibition opening, a local violinist with a special guest – Pat Woodcock – provided some fine Scottish fiddle music.

The concert and ceilidh – with music by Campsie Scottish Folk Players and the nine-piece Campsie Ceilidh Band, with three fiddlers – was greatly enjoyed by a full house, with almost everyone dancing.

There were some moving songs from Frances Diamond, Rena Scott, Anne Stevenson and Bill Forrest, with Andrew Greig on piano.

A number of the band’s CDs were purchased.

A large audience enjoyed the Sunday jazz afternoon. JazzCo gave a terrific swinging performance and a very varied programme.

The superb music from the Great American Song Book sung by Chris Clark, with his guitar, was particularly appreciated.

More than £200 was raised for the Village Hall Trust and overall the event was declared an amazing success.
