Sparkling Lenzie couple mark six decades of married bliss
DIAMOND couple John and Mary Carr have celebrated 60 years of married life together.
Mr and Mrs Carr, who live in Cherry Bank, Lenzie, were married on April 14, 1952, in St Flannan’s Parish Church, Kirkintilloch.
When they first got married the couple lived in a flat in Donaldson Street, in Kirkintilloch.
They have three grown-up children, John, Mary and Edward, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
John worked as a shipwright in the Glasgow shipyards and originally came from the Garngad area.
Mrs Carr, whose maiden name was Hood, is orginally from Kirkintilloch. She went to St Ninian’s School.
John is well-known in the area for his charity work with Kirkintilloch Variety Orchestra (KVO).
To mark their diamond anniversary the couple received a blessing in St Flannan’s Parish Church, before enjoying a meal with family and friends in the Indian Cottage Restaurant in Kirkintilloch.
John and Mary are pictured on the day of their 60th wedding anniversary.
