A TALENTED 10-pin bowler is hoping to strike gold after being chosen to represent Great Britain at the Special Olympics.
Donna Rennie (39) will represent the UK in the mixed 10-pin bowling event at the Special Olympic’s World Games in Athens in June.
The former Merkland School pupil will compete in her first World Games after winning a total of three golds and three bronze medals while representing Scotland West at the Special Olympic UK games in 2005 and 2009.
Donna, who volunteers at Summerston Riding for the Disabled, said: “I am very excited and raring to go. When I received the letter saying I’d been picked I was over the moon.
“It would be great to come back with a medal, but I will have to wait and see how it goes.”
Donna, from Milton of Campsie, started bowling in 1991 after her best friend got her involved in the sport. She trains twice a week at Pro Bowl in Kirkintilloch.
Donna’s mum, Rhona, said: “We are very proud of her. Donna puts her heart and soul into everything she does.”
Gregg McClymont, MP for Cumbermnauld, Kilsyth and Kirkintilloch East, MP, visited Donna recently to congratulate her on her selection.
He said: “Donna’s success is proof that talent and hard work can overcome any barrier. I wish her every success at the games and I am certain that she will do us proud.”
