AN up-and-coming comedian is preparing to perform at the prestigious Glasgow International Comedy Festival.
Darren Connell (25), from Bishopbriggs, will take to the stage at Blackfriars Basement on Thursday, March 21, at 8.30pm to perform with friend and comedy partner Scott Gibson.
It’s the latest step in a fledgling comedy career that began just a few years ago when the former Turnbull High pupil was at college.
He said: “I’ve always enjoyed making people laugh but I didn’t really realise what standup was until one of my college friends said I should give it a go.
“My first gig was at the Glasgow Stand and it was the most terrible gig ever.
“I’d brought about 15 friends in with my but I made the rookie mistake of not actually writing any material and died on my feet.
“I thought that I’d never do it again, but then I reckoned I didn’t want that to be my first and last performance so kept on going.”
