Bishopbriggs gala could move to accommodate HM The Queen!
IT will be a right royal do – in every sense – if plans go ahead in Bishopbriggs.
The area’s gala day could be moved to a bank holiday Monday to coincide with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
Bishopbriggs Community Council is considering holding its annual gala day event on Monday, June 4, instead of the traditional Saturday.
The move would let the community take part in a nation-wide beacon lighting event.
A network of thousands of beacons will be lit by communities and individuals throughout the United Kingdom, as well as the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man and the Commonwealth to mark The Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
Community council secretary Tom Dibble said: “Holding the gala day on a Monday is something we are considering. It would tie in nicely with the Queen’s Jubilee and allow us to take part in the beacon lighting.”
The community council is also asking former gala queens and princesses to come out of retirement and get involved to mark the milestone occasion.
This year will be the second time the gala will be held at Brackenbrae House. It now intends to expand the event after its success last year. If you are a former gala queen or princess and would like to get involved e-mail ideas@bishopbriggs.org.uk
