Messi occasion for Amy – Bishopbriggs music star meets midfield maestro
MEETING the world’s most famous footballer and selling millions of records – that is the life for a Bishopbriggs singer-songwriter.
Amy Macdonald met Barcelona star Lionel Messi after he was crowned the world’s greatest player at the star-studded FIFA Ballon D’Or awards ceremony in Zurich.
Amy (25) – a massive star in Europe – sang her hit ‘Slow It Down’ at the high-profile event.
And afterwards she notched up an amazing result – as she and her drummer posed for a picture with Messi.
Amy posted the picture on Twitter with the message: “Amazing! Total legend! Me and Sam Embery with the lovely Lionel Messi!”
She added: “Thank-you for all the lovely tweets.
“I felt extremely honoured to be in the company of so many talented people. Amazing.”
Before the star-studded evening Amy told Fifa.com: “Tonight definitely feels special.
“I am such a massive football fan, so I feel like I will be singing for the most important people in the world.
“In my band we are all huge football fans. We are really, really excited. It definitely feels like something totally different from what I am used to, and I feel honoured to be here.”
Amy said she first got into football at school in Bishopbriggs. She has sold more than four million albums and earned 25 platinum and gold discs in 17 countries.
Debut album ‘This Is the Life’ was a massive hit, as were the follow-ups ’A Curious Thing and ‘Life in a Beautiful Light’.
