Track down ‘Zero Dark Thirty’ at Cineworld Parkhead
CONTROVERSIAL thriller ‘Zero Dark Thirty’ is a blistering, documentary-style look at the decade-long hunt for Osama Bin Laden.
Kathryn Bigelow, director of ‘The Hurt Locker’, follows her Oscar-winning success with this dramatisation of the world’s greatest manhunt.
Simply put, it’s one of the best movies of the past year and more than justifies its Best Picture Oscar nom.
On May 2, 2011, al-Qaeda leader bin Laden was tracked down and killed at a compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan.
Bigelow and writer-producer Mark Boal (who also wrote the script for ‘The Hurt Locker’) rewind the clock and examine the events that led to his discovery and death.
The decade-long operation involved a top-secret team of intelligence and military operatives, all of whom dedicated themselves to a single goal: track down and eliminate the world’s most wanted man.
Jessica Chastain is superb in the lead role and is also a strong contender for a ‘golden baldie’ next month.
Bigelow meanwhile expertly pieces together a gripping mosaic – including torture, tragedy, frustration and flashes of brilliance.
Like ‘The Hurt Locker’ and ‘United 93’ this is visceral, edge-of-your-seat cinema – at times it feels like you are watching the real events unfold. Unmissable.
We have teamed up with Cineworld Parkhead to give away a pair of tickets for a movie of your choice (subject to conditions) to three lucky readers. To be in with a chance see this week’s paper.
