A debut short story collection from a talented writer has won the prestigious Scott Prize.

Kirsty Logan, a former Lenzie Academy pupil, is thrilled with the award for her book, The Rental Heart & Other Fairytales.

The Scott Prize is an international annual contest for a first collection of short stories.

Kirsty’s book will be published in January next year. She said: “I’m thrilled to have won, as I’ve worked very hard and it’s great to see that paying off.

“The shortlisted writers are a mix of American and British, and I’m proud that of all the nationalities that could have won, Scotland got it!

The Rental Heart & Other Fairytales is a collection of 20 dark adult fairytales. The stories have been broadcast on BBC Radio 4, recorded for podcasts, and published in anthologies and literary magazines all over the world.
