BUDDING board stars at Bishopbriggs Youth BMX Club have launched a petition to get a skatepark created in the town.

The club was started by East Dunbartonshire Cycle Co-op two years ago in a bid to build up support for a skatepark.

The campaign has been backed by East Dunbartonshire MP Jo Swinson.

She will hold an informal meeting in Huntershill Village at 6pm on Wednesday, August 8, to discuss the proposals.

The East Dunbartonshire MP, who visited the BMX Club last month, said: “A number of constituents have voiced their interest in establishing a skatepark in Bishopbriggs, so I’ve decided to get everyone who is interested in the issue together in one room to get the ball rolling.

“It will be an informal discussion with members from the BMX Club, East Dunbartonshire Cycle Co-op and other interested parties like the team behind the Rebound project in Lennox Forest.

“Anyone who is interested, has ideas or who would like to find out more should RSVP via email to swinsonj@parliament.uk or ring my office on 0141 943 1568.”

Mark Kiehlmann, founder of East Dunbartonshire Cycle Co-op, said: “We’re pleased that Jo has come on board.

“We launched the BMX Club in order to create popular support for a skatepark in Bishopbriggs and we support the work that Jo is doing. It’s fantastic.”
