DARING youngsters will make tracks for Kirkintilloch later this month to take part in a major contest.
Kirkintilloch Skatepark Initiative (KSI) will hold its ‘sK800 at Kirkintilloch Skatepark’ competition on August 27 and 28, with top prizes of £200 up for grabs in each contest.
The competitions, which mark Kirkintilloch’s 800th year as a barony burgh, are set to attract skaters from across the UK and pro-skaters will be on hand to judge the event.
KSI project co-ordinator Susan Murray said: “Preparations are going really well. This is a great way to attract people to Kirkintilloch. It’s a bit off the beaten track, but I’m hoping the competitions will encourage people to find the skatepark, use it, and hopefully come back in future.”
The competitions will take place on Saturday, August 27 (rollerblading) and Sunday, August 28 (skateboarding), with prizes of £200, £150 and £50 for the top three competitors in each event.
A BMX contest is also scheduled for September.
