A GROUP of talented writers are celebrating after scooping a handful of top awards.

Members of Strathkelvin Writers’ Group won six prizes for their poetry, drama, book reviews and short stories at the annual Scottish Association of Writers weekend conference at the Erskine Bridge Hotel.

Over 140 writers from across Scotland took part in the competitions.

Secretary Maggie Powell, who won a silver award for her murder drama ‘The Featured Extra’, said: “We’re really pleased to win. It’s delightful to be there on the night with your peers and hear your name called.

“Every writers group in Scotland can take part in it, we’re holding the torch for East Dunbartonshire.”

Strathkelvin Writers’ Group meets every Tuesday in St James the Less church hall, Bishopbriggs, and is always looking for new members.
