The pilot got the go-head for an occasional drinks licence today from councillors at the city’s licensing board.

An agent said it will be open to Scotland fans with match tickets with a capacity of just under 500 people.

He said the fenced off area will feature a bar and four street food caterers as well as a stage with entertainment and picnic style benches.

The agent told the licensing board the fan zone will be a safe space for people to have a “pre match bite to eat, beer or ice-cream” and it is a pilot.

He said it will provide an “add on to the match day experience” and will be “safe and well managed.”

The home team are set to face Georgia at 7.45pm on Tuesday in the UEFA Euro Qualifiers.

Police Scotland asked that the applicant behind the venture make sure they submit a security plan and alcohol management plan to the force beforehand and limit drinks to four per person.

The licensing board meeting heard the fenced off food and drink area will open at 5pm with last orders at 7pm.

It is understood the new offering is a Scottish Football Association (SFA) initiative.

The premises was listed as Hampden Park & Ride area at Aikenhead Road with Barbara Jane Steele as the applicant.
