PARENTS were on their guard this week after a school pupil was the target of an alleged abduction attempt.
The 11-year-old boy was approached by a man last Tuesday morning (May 6) while walking to Wester Cleddens Primary School, in Bishopbriggs.

Police say the man asked the boy 'if he would like to go with him' but the pupil immediately ran away and told a teacher what had happened.

A spokesperson for East Dunbartonshire Council said: "The school called the police, the boy's parents and notified the council's education service of the incident.

"We take child safety very seriously. The council's head of education promptly issued a letter to other schools in the area letting them know about the incident and asking them to remind children of the 'stranger danger' message.

"The matter is now in the hands of the police."

One concerned Bishopbriggs resident said: "It's awful to think of such a thing happening.

"I think that all parents should know about it so that they can decide whether to let their children walk to school in the future."

A Strathclyde Police spokesperson said: "Police enquiries into this incident are on-going."
