The winner of the Kirkintilloch Herald Series Young Writer of the Year Contest 2008 is Eilidh Forsyth.
Eilidh was a P7 pupil at Lairdsland Primary School, in Kirkintilloch.

The Herald's Young Writer of the Year contest is aimed specifically at children in P7. The theme for this year's contest was 'Community'.

You can read all the great entries by logging on this website by going to the Young Writer section.

Herald editor Jim Holland said: "Once again the judges had a very difficult task in choosing a winner. The standard was very high.

"However, after a great deal of deliberation, they chose Eilidh's entry based on her use of descriptive language and the overall structure of her essay."

The Herald would like to thank all the P7 pupils who took part in the contest.
