A PROMINENT listed building in Lenzie could receive a face-lift in 2009.

The facade of Dean House, which sits on Lenzie's Kirkintilloch Road, between Lenzie Public Hall and Lenzie Union Parish Church, has fallen into disrepair in recent years.

Former Lenzie resident Sandy Young, who now lives in England, told the Herald: "As someone who lived in Lenzie for 30 years before moving away because of job demands, it is always discouraging to see neglect that does not need to happen. Why does it need to be so shabby? It is in the heart of Lenzie."

The building is owned by the neighbouring Lenzie Union Parish Church, who say they are looking to address the issue.

Lenzie Union minister Reverend Dan Carmichael said: "We, as a church, get upset at the state of the building and understand why others feel the same.

"Dean House is a valued facility that is used by a number of church groups.

"It is something that is very much in hand and a decision-making process is set for February."

A spokesperson for East Dunbartonshire Council said: "Dean House is not a council owned building. The building is listed and there is a responsibility on the owner to ensure that it does not deteriorate.

"The council has, however, given listed building consent for the exterior of the building to be cleaned and upgraded. This should go some significant way towards restoring its appearance."
