A PROPOSED new leisure and community development in Robroyston has been given outline planning permission by Glasgow City Council.
David Lloyd Centre and Stewart Milne Homes have both been given the go-ahead to proceed with the new development at Saughs Road and Robroyston Drive.
The plans include the construction of a health, fitness and leisure club with outdoor tennis cou
rts, family fast food restaurants, and a community centre.
It is the latest boost for the amenity starved community after the council unveiled plans to build a primary school in the area as part of an education review.
Springburn MSP Paul Martin is delighted the development has been given outline planning permission and is confident the news will be welcomed by the local community.
He said: "I want to see the David Lloyd Centre developed along with additional facilities for people in Robroyston. They have been waiting a long time for something like this.
"A large number of people have made a significant investment in Robroyston and pay high levels of council tax, so they have every reason to want amenities such as this in return.
"I will be asking the developers and officials at the David Lloyd Centre for a meeting to discuss how they plan to work with the community on this."
