A GROUP of teenagers came to the rescue when a pensioner fell into a village pond
The incident happened at Whitefield Pond, in Lennoxtown.

Teenagers Graeme Young (17), Ben Garlinge (17), Kieran McLauchlin (16), Nisha Scott (17) and Phillip Sinclair, all from the village, spotted the man in the water and helped pull him out before the emergency services arrived.

A local resident who witnessed the ordeal said: "The youngsters had great trouble getting the man out, but they eventually managed to haul him from the water.

"They should be commended for saving him. They did it without any hesitation.

"Young people are so often vilified for hanging around the streets, but had they not been there this may have had a different outcome."

One of the teenagers, Graeme Young, said: "We spotted a woman with a dog looking into the water at the man, so we went over to help.

"He was really heavy because his clothes were wet and dragging him down. But eventually we managed to get a grip and pull him out.

"The water isn't that deep, but we were worried about him."
