THE people of Kirkintilloch have been urged to have their say on the future use of a landmark building.
Kirkintilloch Town Hall Preservation Trust is holding a public meeting next month and organisers want as many people as possible to go along and put forward their ideas for the B-listed building.
Members of the trust will discuss plans for th
e historic building and will answer questions on the proposals alongside the project architect and business planner.
Trust vice-chairperson Pam McGaughrin said: "We are inviting everyone and anyone who has an opinion on the future of the town hall to come along and talk to us.
"The planning application should be discussed by councillors after the summer, so this is the last chance people will have to say what they like and don't like.
"The plans are at a very exciting stage, so it would be great if as many people as possible took the opportunity to make sure the new town hall is the best facility it can be."
The town hall trust was set up by members of the public. Its key aim is to transform the building into a new community facility.
The building, on Union Street, was closed by East Dunbartonshire Council in 2004.
Since then, the trust has been awarded various grants and recently submitted a planning application to the council.
Funds have also been raised through the sale of CDs, name bricks and a book, 'The Diary of a Town Hall'.
Researched and written by Kirkintilloch and District Society of Antiquaries, the book charts the hall's history.
It is now available for £5 at William Patrick Library, Wallaces, from trust members or by calling Pam McGuaghrin on 0141 578 3708.
Kirkintilloch Town Hall Preservation Trust is hosting the public meeting in the Park Centre, Kerr Street, on August 27, from 7.30pm.
