A banner event to look at a colourful piece of local history

A special event looking at the social history of Glasgow will be open to all next week.

‘Banner Tales of Glasgow’, a joint project between Glasgow University, Glasgow Musieums and the GMB union, is in Barmulloch Community Centre on May 16 from, 11.30am-3pm.

The collection includes, amongst others, union banners, peace banners and women’s movement banners stretching back to the mid 19th Century.

It is a free even open to all but the organisers are’re particularly interested in getting in touch with local people with knowledge of the banners and/or the organisations they represent.

A spokesperson said: Reacquainting people with the banners produces a thought provoking, emotional and inspiring event.”
