A FOOTBALLING legend has marked the end of a gruelling sporting challenge by paying tribute to his Scottish ancestors.

Former Arsenal and Scotland goalkeeper Bob Wilson visited Springfield Cambridge Parish Church, in Bishopbriggs, recently at the end of a 500-mile sponsored cycle.

Bob’s grandfather, Reverend Robert Primrose was minister at the then Springfield Church from 1921-1926.

Bob spoke to members of the congregation about his grandfather and signed the church’s guestbook. The 71-year-old was raising cash for the Willow Foundation, a charity he set up in memory of his late daughter, Anna, who died of a rare form of cancer in 1998.

Bob played for Arsenal from 1963-74 and made 308 appearances for the London club. He is pictured signing the church’s guest book.
