A poignant memorial service was held last Sunday to remember the men who were killed in one of Scotland’s worst mining disasters.
The Auchengeich disaster happened on September 18, 1959, when a fire killed 47 miners who had become trapped underground.
A service is held every year at the Auchengeich memorial in Moodiesburn to allow the community to pay their respects and remember lost family members.
In 2009 a special bronze statue of a miner was unveiled marking the 50th anniversary of the tragedy.
On Sunday MP Tom Clarke, North Lanarkshire Council Provost Jim Robertson and East Dunbartonshire Provost Una Walker were among those who attended the memorial event for 2014.
