The Secretary of State for Scotland has vowed to focus on tackling rising youth unemployment during a recent visit to Aviva.

Michael Moore MP visited Aviva, which is one of Bishopbriggs’ largest employers, earlier today to ask how the Government could help the insurance firm during the economic recession.

Mr Moore was invited to visit the business by Jo Swinson MP after it expressed interest in her Get East Dunbartonshire Working initiative, which aims to create 100 work or training opportunities in 100 days.

The visit is part of Mr Moore’s current tour of Scottish businesses.

Mr Moore MP said: “The economy clearly has been in a very challenging state.

“When you look at workplaces like Aviva in East Dunbartonshire you’ve got the base of a stable future.

“On a UK level we are really focusing on youth unemployment. It’s one of our top priorities.”
