CHILDCARE centre chiefs have pleaded with vandals to stop targeting their latest project.

Staff, pupils and parents at Cleddens Learning and Childcare Centre recently added an eco greenhouse made of recycled bottles to their grounds.

The bottles were collected by the youngsters, but are constantly being removed by vandals.

The latest attack happened over the weekend.

A spokesperson for the centre said: “The boys and girls were devastated to find their greenhouse had been vandalised again.

“The children and their families have been collecting bottles over the last two years and helped to finance the building of their eco greenhouse as part of our Eco Schools Green Flag award.

“With the help of some parents it was built a few weeks ago, but since then it has been continuously vandalised.”

Staff at the nursery suspect that local teenagers may be to blame and have asked local schools to speak to their pupils about the situation at their assemblies.

The spokesperson added: “The people responsible may not realise the damage they are doing, but it’s really disheartening when so many people go to so much effort, only to have it ruined like this.”
