A woman has told of her shock and horror at hearing what she believed to be three gunshots as youngsters prepared to leave a Bishopbriggs school this afternoon at the start of the holiday weekend.

Police swooped on Dornoch Place in Bishopbriggs after receiving reports of a man armed with a gun, shortly after 3pm (Thursday).

Observers have spoken of “swarms” of police in the area, and of at least part of one road being closed off.

It’s understood armed police were at the scene, along with additional police patrols, to establish the exact circumstances.

One woman, who asked not to be named, told the Herald: “I heard what seemed to me to be three gunshots. It happened just as the kids were about to leave the St Helen’s Primary.”
