AN INNOCENT shop-keeper had bleach thrown in his face and was threatened with a knife during a terrifying robbery.

The ordeal unfolded at the Costcutter in Red Road Court in Barmulloch.

The 33-year-old male shop-keeper went to serve two customers, but before he could reach them a man came in and threw bleach in his face.

The shopkeeper said: “I saw a knife which he was pointing at me. It was frightening, I’m still shaken.

“I got away through the side door, went to the pharmacy and phoned the police.”

The thug stole a three- figure sum of money and other items from the shop.

As he left the premises he picked up a sports bag, which was sitting outside, and made off towards Broomton Road.

Luckily the staff member was only slightly injured. He was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary and released after treatment.

The incident took place on Tuesday, February 28, at around 4.15pm. The suspect is described as a white male, around 5ft 5ins tall, aged between 16 and 24. He was wearing a white tracksuit and a blue hooded top.

Detective Constable Mark McKay, from the Robbery Unit, said: “Extensive inquiries are ongoing in the local area in connection with the robbery and we are currently checking CCTV footage in an effort to gather more information on the man responsible.

“Red Road Court would have been fairly busy with pedestrians around the time of the robbery and I would ask anyone who has any information or can help identify the man responsible to contact the Robbery Unit on 0141 532 4836 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
