Police in the northern corridor are warning residents of bogus workmen reported working in the Chryston area.
Last Thursday, August 21, an elderly woman was in her home on Berryknowe Avenue when a man chapped her door and offered to carry out work on her driveway.
Though the resident initially declined, she was eventually persuaded by the cold caller and two other men arrived shortly after and all three started to ‘rip up’ the driveway. Later in the afternoon, another man arrived and warned the resident not to allow the working to continue. The four men then left and have not returned.
Constable Natalie Reid, community safety officer in North Lanarkshire, said: “We do not have a great description of these males and all we know is they may have been driving a white van.
“The males are not legitimate workmen and did not offer any contract or cooling off period. This elderly female has been left visibly shaken by the incident and her driveway has been ripped up and slabs left strewn all over the pathway.
“We are looking to find the male who warned the complainer and for any further information regarding these males as we believe there may be further victims in the area.”
Anyone with any information on this incident can contact Cumbernauld police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
