FORMER hospital grounds could be transformed into a haven for the elderly if health chiefs attract a suitable buyer.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) have instructed commercial property firm Ryden to market the Lenzie Hospital site, which occupies 6.24 acres of ground opposite Lenzie Golf Course, to interested parties.

It is hoped that a developer will be interested in turning the site into a care home alongside a range of properties for older residents.

Russell Rutherford, a partner at Ryden, said: “There are a number of strong enquiries already registered, reflecting the site’s strong attributes, namely its very desirable location, excellent rail and bus links, easy access and close proximity to the motorway system.”

He added: “The concept of a care village is not new, but increasing demand by residents for a secure, social community within an attractive environment will result in many more of these villages being progressed, as downsizing and low maintenance becomes a higher priority for the older generation.”
