ANXIOUS residents are pleading for increased security after seeing their common closes become a haven for drug addicts and teenage drinkers.

Last month the Herald reported that a used syringe had been found at the back door of one of the council properties in Burns Court, Kirkintilloch.

Tenants demanded that locks be installed on unsecured back doors, but they say East Dunbartonshire Council housing chiefs have failed to address the issue.

The latest worrying find in the common area was made last week - a number of cannabis leaves left alongside used cigarette papers.

Residents say it’s indicative of the sort of people who frequent the close at night and describe their living conditions as “unbearable”.

More on this story in next week’s Kirkintilloch Herald.
