Calls to keep Lenzie Post Office central

LENZIE Post Office should be relocated closer to its current branch - that’s the message from MSP Fiona McLeod.

The Post Office is consulting on the proposal to move the branch from Kirkintilloch Road to the Scotmid Co-op’s Morning, Noon and Night Store, in Gallowhill Road.

Plans have been submitted by the Co-operative to open a new store on the former Gillespie’s petrol station site in Kirkintilloch Road and MSP Fiona McLeod believes that would be a good location for the post office.

The Strathkelvin and Bearsden MSP has responded to the consultation on the proposed move.

Ms McLeod said: “I am concerned about the proposed move to Gallowhill Road. While it’s technically still in Lenzie it isn’t remotely central and takes the service even closer to the Kirkintilloch post office at WHSmith and an uncertain future.

“When I heard that the Co-operative are planning on building a store on the site of the former petrol station I thought that would be an ideal site to include the post office if it must be moved, and keep its services as central as possible.”

She added: “I have written to both companies and encouraged them to start a dialogue which could benefit their respective customers, and I would encourage Lenzie residents to respond to the consultation and keep their postal service central.”
