VOLUNTEERS are being asked to help run a snack bar and a homework club at a new multi-million jail in Bishopbriggs.

HMP Low Moss, on the outskirts of Bishopbriggs, is looking for people to run the facility during visiting hours.

And any teachers who can spare some time to help children at a homework club are also welcome.

The new prison opened last month and is expected to hold 700 prisoners by the end of May.

Dawn Cairney, family contact officer at Low Moss, said: “Our current volunteers love helping out. “We’re only at half capacity just now, so we really need more people to help.”

Brownies, Girl Guides and Scout groups also run clubs in the prison.

Volunteers must be aged 18 and over and all will be subject to a disclosure check.

Anyone interested is asked to contact Dawn by email, dawn.cairney@sps.pnn.gov.uk or by calling 0141 762 9557.
