PLANS for a respite care unit in Bishopbriggs have been put on hold until a site visit takes place.

East Dunbartonshire Council wants to build the three-bed unit for children with disabilities in St Mary’s Road, adjacent to Turnbull High School.

It was recommended that councillors grant the application, subject to conditions, at last month’s planning board meeting.

But it was a agreed that councillors visit the site before a decision is made.

The planning department has received eight letters of objection from residents opposed to the plans.

Their concerns include that it would result in a loss of privacy, would mean a loss of communal open greenspace, and that the site is unsuitable due to the existing traffic already associated with the nearby high school.
