A TREASURED hospital coffee shop which has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds will close next month despite a spirited campaign to save it from the axe.

Devastated staff and volunteers at the WRVS shop in Stobhill Hospital have been told the shop will shut next month.

In-patient services at the hospital are being transferred to Glasgow Royal Infirmary and the casualty department is to close.

WRVS volunteers are angry that they have not been relocated to the new £100million Stobhill day hospital. Instead a Cafe Aroma was opened in the new building.

The WRVS coffee shop has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for new equipment and services for hospitals since it opened in 1974.

More than 2,500 people signed a petition calling for the shop to stay open.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde said they are in discussions with WRVS on them providing a meet and greet service in the new hospital.
