Controversial housing plans on ice ... for now

OBJECTORS fighting against housing plans in Kirkintilloch have been told the proposals are on hold pending a site visit.

Trust Housing Association wants to build 34 houses and flats on the Meiklehill House site in Lammermoor Road. The proposals include two and three storey buildings.

Meanwhile, East Dunbartonshire Council wants to build 14 homes in nearby Lammermoor Crescent.

Local residents have raised several concerns about the developments, including the height of the buildings and the loss of privacy.

A petition with more than 220 signatures opposing the plans was submitted to the council.

Kirkintilloch East and Twechar councillors Jack Young and Stewart MacDonald asked for a site visit to take place before a decision is made at the next planning meeting on April 24.

An application has also been made to demolish the B-listed Meiklehill House and associated outbuildings.

Over the years Meiklehill House has been the base for a number of organisations. However, it has lain derelict for several years.
