Cops, council, health and more under one roof in village

A ONE-stop-shop community hub is being planned for Lennoxtown.

The facility will provide local access to council, police, health and other services under one roof.

Plans for the community hub were unveiled last year. East Dunbartonshire Council secured £500,000 for the project from the Scottish Futures Trust.

But since then there has been no further news and, to qualify for the funding, progress must be made in the current financial year.

It is just part of a larger cash-saving programme to relocate council services to a number of hubs - including others in Kirkintilloch and Bishopbriggs.

Councillors last week discussed the Lennoxtown development in private at a meeting of the development and infrastructure committee.

But no further details, or a timetable for construction, have been publicly revealed.

Grace Irvine, the council’s head of assets and property services, said: “Proposals for the Lennoxtown Hub are in the very initial stages, however, a project team is now in place and over the next few weeks they will be working out the programme for delivery of the hub.”

She added: “Until the overall programme is developed we do not have any specific dates for the commencement or completion of this project.”
