THERE are growing calls to demolish a derelict pub and shops after vandals torched the building.

The Talisman Pub in Balgrayhill Road, Springburn, has lain empty for several years and has attracted numerous complaints from fed-up residents.

Youths manged to get into the shops recently and start a fire. Fortunately, firefighters were on the scene before the blaze got out of control.

Crews spent 45 minutes at the site during the incident on Sunday, October 14, at around 4.30pm.

Scott Kennedy, station commander at Springburn Fire Station, said: “My concern is that kids are getting into the building. Luckily, crews caught it in time. It could have been worse.”

MSPs and councillors have led a long campaign for action to be taken on the long-standing eyesore.

One local resident said: “The building is a dump and a real blight on the community.”
