Thousands of pounds worth of damage has been caused after cruel thieves stole lead from TWO church roofs.

St Barbara’s Church in Elmira Road, Muirhead, and the nearby Chryston Parish Church, were targeted.

Unfortunately, because of heavy rainfall the water has leaked into the buildings, causing a lot of damage.

Police are investigating the incidents and are looking into the possibility that they could be linked.

The theft from St Barbara’s Church took place on Tuesday, July 23, between 12am and 2.45pm. And Chryston Parish Church (pictured above) was targeted sometime between Tuesday, July 23, and Saturday, July 27.

Rev Kenneth Campbell, from St Barbara’s, said: “It caused flooding quite badly at one side. We only found out the lead had been stolen when the rain came in. People are annoyed. We can’t put the lights on one side of the church.”

Anyone with information on the thefts are asked to contact Cumbernauld Police Office on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
