LITTLE helpers in Kirkintilloch will be pulling on trainers, red suits and white beards as they take part in a Santa Dash this weekend.

A merry band of council employees from Kirkintilloch Community Hub will don full Father Christmas outfits on Saturday, December 1, as they take part in a charity Santa Dash.

More than 150 runners are expected to gather in Mugdock Country Park to take part in the 1km and 5km fun runs.

The aim of the family-friendly event is to raise funds for Lenzie-based Deafblind Scotland.

Jillian Faulkner, Kirkintilloch Community Hub project support officer, decided to encourage her colleagues to join her in registering.

The group have set up their own Justgiving fundraising site and are appealing for donations.

Jillian (pictured centre) said: “We are all very excited about the run and can’t wait to take part.

“As a newly-formed team we are looking forward to a challenge together.

“We are all really happy to raise funds for Deafblind Scotland as it’s a great charity which supports those who live without their sight or hearing.

“It’s difficult to imagine what that must be like.”

As well as enjoying a Christmas Festival, runners will be loosened up before the run with a fun warm-up conducted by personal trainer Laura Ramsay from Total Effect Personal Training.

All adults who run will receive a santa suit while children under 12 will receive antlers and a flashing red nose.

Carol Anne McMahon, Deafblind Scotland resources manager, is delighted so many runners have already registered to take part.

She said: “The Santa Dash is a fantastic way to kick off the festive season and it should be quite a spectacle.

“There is going to be a friendly, positive atmosphere which should provide plenty of laughs. Runners, families or anyone up for a great day out which supports a truly worthy cause should come along. If you haven’t registered yet there is still plenty of time and you can also register on the day.”
