Decision time on plans for derelict site

A former oil depot could be transformed if ambitious plans are given the go-ahead.

Westerhill Developments want to build a hotel, offices, healthcare facilities and a depot on land in Westerhill Road, Bishopbriggs.

East Dunbartonshire Council’s planning board will visit the site on Tuesday before making an decision on the application.

It’s recommended that the plans be granted, subject to legal agreement and conditions.

If it’s given the go-ahead, it is recommended that a planning agreement is entered into which could see a park and ride facility created as well as cycle lanes along Westerhill Road.

A cinema has also been mentioned as part of the plans and it’s the applicant’s intention to submit a separate application.

However, concern has been raised about the extra traffic the development would bring.

Bishopbriggs Community Council said it would oppose the plans unless it is accompanied by an assurance that the Bishopbriggs Relief Road would be completed in full.

Meanwhile Insurance company Aviva, which is based in Westerhill Road, said it “supports the principle of the development, however object to the application on the grounds of highway safety and highway impact”.
