Delay over disabled badges is a blue do for pensioner

Have your say

WHY is it taking so long to renew my disabled parking badge?

That is the plea from a pensioner who said he contacted East Dunbartonshire Council at the beginning of December as his blue badge was due to expire at the end of the year.

However, he says by the end of the month he was still waiting for an application form to be sent out.

He said: “When I contacted the council for the second time, I was told they were waiting on forms coming from the printers. My wife called the next week to ask what was happening and was told the same.

“When I phoned on December 30 they said everything had closed down for the holiday period. My worry is that if I use my blue badge that has expired I could be done for fraud.”

East Dunbartonshire Council’s head of social work, Tony Keogh, said: “The blue badge scheme has been reformed and a new design was launched in Scotland on January 1.

“Under the reformed scheme, new application forms were not finalised by the Scottish Government until mid-December.

“The council therefore took referrals for renewals under the old scheme up until December 12.

“After this date customers were placed on a waiting list while the system changed. The new forms were posted to these customers on December 21.”

He added: “We hope the gentleman in question has now received his form and can only assume that any delay was due to the Christmas post. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
