The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after a dog was discovered tied to a lamppost in Kirkintilloch.
Scotland’s animal welfare charity was alerted on Monday, January 5, when the female English bull terrier was discovered on West High Street.
The dog is now in the care of the charity’s Glasgow Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre in Cardonald, where she has been named Petal.
Senior Inspector Billy Linton said: “Other than being overweight, Petal is in good condition.
“She was wearing a distinctive black leather and brass harness when she was found.
“We would ask anyone who recognises Petal to contact us as we are keen to identify her owner and establish how she came to be there.”
Abandoning and causing an animal unnecessary suffering animal is an offence under the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006 and anyone found guilty of doing so can expect to be banned from keeping animals for a fixed period or life.
Anyone with information is being urged to contact the Scottish SPCA Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999.
