FAB fundraisers are accelerating towards a new minibus thanks to a Lottery windfall and the generosity of locals.
Hard-working pupils, staff and supporters at Bishopbriggs Academy are celebrating a £10,000 boost from the Big Lottery Fund.
They have been raising cash for a minbus and – thanks to the Lottery boost – are closing in on their goal.
Earlier this year pupils and staff completed a sponsored West Highland Way walk which raised more than £4,000. The academy also auctioned its old bus for around £700.
A Christmas Fayre this Saturday is the next big event, to be followed in February by a fashion show.
School assistant Kirsty Mills is leading the fundraising charge.
She said: “We were absolutely delighted to receive the Lottery grant – that takes us to nearly £15,000. Hopefully after our Christmas Fayre we will be in a position to order the new minibus. Everyone has been great, especially all the pupils involved on the walk.”
The Bishopbriggs Academy Christmas Fayre this Saturday (November 26) will feature stalls from around 25 local businesses and Young Enterprise stalls – including home-baking, jewellery, Christmas decorations, cards, handmade gifts and more. There will also be a chance to meet Santa, win goodies from a tombola or to just soak up the Christmas atmosphere.Entry costs £2.50 and includes tea/coffee and cake. The event takes place from 10.30am-12.30pm.
