A MAJOR multi-million pound project to regenerate one of Kirkintilloch’s most delapidated neighbourhoods is entering its final phase.

Hillhead Housing Association 2000 (HHA) has spent much of the last decade striving to regenerate the Hillhead area.

A successful ballot of residents in September 2002 saw 863 council properties transferred into the ownership of the newly-established HHA by stock transfer in June 2004.

Since then the management committee at the association has been working towards delivering on its pledge to carry out improvement works to 673 houses and cottage flats, demolish 186 three-storey tenement flats and build 190 new properties for rent in their place.

Recent weeks have seen the final phase of work begin at Ivanhoe Drive.

HHA director Stephen Macintyre said: “Demolition of the unpopular flats in Ivanhoe Drive, Border Way and Abbotsford Drive is currently underway and will remove what has been a blight in the area for some time.”
