THOUSANDS of locals will be able to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee in style next year after plans to make the day a public holiday were given the go-ahead.

Schools and council offices across East Dunbartonshire will close on Tuesday, June 5, 2012, to mark the Queen’s 60th year on the throne.

The council will also move the traditional May bank holiday to Friday, June 1, and Monday, June 4, to give most residents a four-day weekend.

Councillor Rhondda Geekie, Leader of East Dunbartonshire Council said: “The council is pleased to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, in keeping with a number of other neighbouring authorities, and as such has agreed that schools and all other council buildings will be closed to the public on June 4, 2012, subject to the continued delivery of essential frontline services on that day.”
