BULLDOZERS have demolished derelict flats which were repeatedly targeted by vandals and firebugs.

Firefighters recently tackled three blazes in the buildings in Ivanhoe Drive, Kirkintilloch, just days apart.

Fire crews have been called out to the rundown properties countless times in recent years - putting the lives of residents and firefighters at risk.

The remaining two blocks were demolished last week.

A major regeneration project has been taking place in the Hillhead area over the last decade.

The demolition of the flats will clear the way for more new housing.

Stephen Tait, property services co-ordinator with Hillhead Housing Association 2000 (HHA), said: “It was a concern that the buildings were being targeted.

“We have tried to do our best working with the fire service. The flats have now been demolished and the site will be cleared.”

Up to 87 new homes are being created in the Ivanhoe Drive area. HHA aims to build up to 190 new homes in Hillhead overall, demolishing 186.
