Fir the sake of all of us – recycle your tree in Kirky and Bishopbriggs!

DON’T send your Christmas tree to landfill – that’s the plea to families in East Dunbartonshire.

The council is determined to make it easier than ever to recycle festive trees, with skips being left in Kirkintilloch and Bishopbriggs.

If real trees are put out with normal rubbish, they will go to a local landfill site. Last year, more than 39,000 tonnes of waste were sent to landfill.

Last Thursday East Dunbartonshire Council placed skips in the following places where residents can dispose of their real trees in an environmentally-friendly way:

* Strathkelvin Retail Park (far end of the car park at B&Q)

* William Patrick Library car park in Kirkintilloch

* Mavis Valley Recycling Centre in Bishopbriggs

Alternatively, residents can call the Customer Contact Centre on 0300 123 4510 and the council will pick the tree up, free of charge.

Last year the council collected 20 tonnes of Christmas trees and is hoping even more residents choose to recycle their real trees this year.

All trees collected will be composted into a compost/soil improver, which will be available to buy from Buchley Eco Centre – 0141 772 5099.
