POLICE are hunting a vandal who hurled a firework into a building for adults with autism in Springburn – causing damage to the building and distress to alarmed residents.

Supported accommodation premises run by National Autistic Society (NAS) Scotland, in Morrin Path, were targeted on Bonfire Night (November 5) at around 8.30pm.

Anna Cooper, NAS Scotland’s area manager for services, said: “Unfortunately, incidents like these can cause great distress and even undermine confidence, discouraging the people who live in our supported accommodation from engaging with the local community.

“We all have the right to feel safe in our own homes.

“NAS Scotland appreciates the support given to the people who live in our accommodation by many members of the Springburn community.”

She added: “The firework incident involved just a few individuals.

“It was very distressing for the people we support, but we feel the actions of a few people are not representative of the Springburn community as a whole.”

Some damage was caused to tiles in the building.

Police are investigating the incident and would ask anyone with information to get in touch on 0141 532 4400 or 0800 555111.
