POST office staff cycled an exhausting 326 miles to deliver a first-class cash boost for charity recently.

Dereck Pettigrew, Mark Gallagher and Henry McKelvie, who work at the Glasgow Mail Centre in Springburn, cycled for more than 36 hours from John O’Groats to Glasgow in aid of the Marie Curie Hospice in Springburn.

They set off at 2am on the Thursday morning and arrived in Glasgow at 3pm on the Friday afternoon.

Dereck said: “It was hard going, freezing and exhausting, especially as it was non-stop and we had had no sleep at all. But it was worth it.”

They were accompanied by a support crew in a van donated by the Royal Mail, consisting of Alan McGovern, Mark Brennan and Danny McKenzie, who supplied them with food and refreshments to keep them going.

So far the team has raised over £1,200 and are hoping to raise even more.
