A FORMER health clinic site is still up for sale.
Controversial plans to build flats at the Townhead Clinic site, on Lenzie Road, in Kirkintilloch, fell through earlier this year.
Sanctuary Scotland was given planning permission to build a three storey development of 16 flats and a pharmacy.
However, Sanctuary, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and Kirkintilloch’s Initiative failed to reach an agreement.
At the time Sanctuary said they would keep the situation under review to see if there was a chance the development could go ahead at some time in the future.
The site remains up for sale. The clinic has been empty since the new state-of-the-art healthcare centre opened in Saramago Street more than 18 months ago.
There have been calls to turn the former clinic site into a car park to help tackle the ongoing problem of parking in the area.
Concerns have been raised by businesses and residents that a homes development would add to the area’s existing parking problems.
Thomas Glen, director of Kirkintilloch’s Initiative, said: “The Townhead Clinic site, which is owned by the NHS and is part of the Kirkintilloch Initiative regeneration project, is still up for sale.
“This site has the benefit of planning consent for a development of affordable housing and retail.”
